Artist Biography
Jennifer Graham is a multiplex medium artist from Jacksonville, Florida. The mediums include drawing, painting, printmaking, lithography and photography. Her pieces reflect transformations fueled by emotions that are provoked from various sources. Each piece represents an emotional release from opportunities and obstacles presented in daily life. Research is one of her strong qualities which enhances her pieces.
Although she was in a car accident at the end of the spring semester 2018, she pressed forward and utilized help from her friends, family and colleagues. She was enrolled in the summer session for lithography. Rather than withdraw, she requested help from her professor and classmates allowing her to successfully complete the class. During which time she was undergoing testing and treatment. Her piece “Injured,” reflects what she was going through during this class.
In two different juried selections, her digital print “The Floating Child,” was selected. In 2018, the piece was selected for the show “Smothered in Blue,” at The Art Center Cooperative gallery located in the Jacksonville Landing. In 2017, this piece was selected in the UNF Summer Art Show at the Southlight Gallery in downtown Jacksonville. This piece reflects a gothic and mysterious portraiture regarding the importance of molding a child’s mind.
In 2016, she created a series of eight black and white photographs titled “Sara.” She used a Nikon 35mm camera and developed the film in the dark room at the University of North Florida. Jennifer created each scene with props. This series tells a story of a young lady named Sara. She was educated in accounting and begins her career. She goes on to experience death of a loved one and does not understand how to grieve and has no grief support. Eventually Sara becomes subdued in the vicious cycle of addiction to numb her pain. Recovery is sought. Sara changes her life.
Jennifer will graduate in December of 2018 from UNF, earning a minor in painting, drawing and printmaking. After graduating, she plans to attend graduate school in her home state. She plans to become employed utilizing her B.S. in communication to gain experience in journalism. She will stay active in the art community and continue to create art in various mediums. One day she hopes to combine the two fields.
